Do not think that the words of prayer, as you say them, go up to God. It is not the words themselves that
ascend; it is rather the burning desire of your heart that rises like smoke toward heaven. If your prayer
consists only of words and letters, and does not contain your heart’s desire – how can it rise up to God?
Nachman of Breslav (translated by Arthur Green and Barry Holtz)
Meet Rabbi Jennifer Singer
Congregation Kol HaNeshama has a custom of sending members, or non-members, a reminder of the Yahrzeit (Hebrew calendar anniversary date) of their departed immediate family members.
We send this reminder several weeks in advance so that you can check the schedule of services and pick a date to say Kaddish, since the Hebrew date varies significantly from year to year.
If you have never done this before, but would like to get a reminder please click the button below.
The Larry Deutsch Memorial Torah Challenge
You can do it. It’s easier than you think! Calling all members to read from the Torah … if not now, when? To celebrate her beloved late husband Larry’s love of Torah, Toby Deutsch will donate $100 to KH in honor of anyone who reads Torah at a KH service for the first time. We have computer discs to lend, and Jennifer Singer, as well as other members, will assist you. Please contact Ranita Gomez at (813) 629-1073 or firstname.lastname@example.org to plan your date, and she will assign you a reading. In honor of Larry’s passion for teaching Torah, Toby offers the same donation for any first-time leader of a Lunch & Learn discussion.
Tikkun Olam (Repair the World)
Performing mitzvot is the Jewish strategy to make our world better. Your help is critical in supporting the All Faiths Food Bank Campaign Against Hunger.
Please help us and make it a habit to start your Shabbat with the mitzvah of bringing nonperishable food items to services. Kindly drop these off in the food barrel.
Donations will be accepted every week, so please keep giving!
Below are the Top 10 food items. Number 11 is toilet paper, which is not covered by Food Stamps.
Plastic jars of peanut butter • Canned tuna fish • Canned beans • Canned fruits • Breakfast cereal • Packaged snack foods such as peanut butter crackers, cheese crackers, trail mix • Nuts • Baby food • Nutritional drinks • Nonperishable milk
Please bring your food items to services. Remember — no glass. We thank you for your assistance.
Hesed for Members
